Lactate isn't a waste product, it's a fuel. According to Prof. Brooks' Lactate Shuttle theory, lactate produced in one tissue can be transported to and oxidised by slow-twitch muscle fibres, the heart and the brain. Each Lactate Gel Mix delivers 90g of carbohydrates in the well-established 2:1 glucose to fructose ratio plus 10g of sodium lactate. Because carbs and lactate follow distinct absorption and metabolic pathways, the formula expands the pool of fuel available during exercise without adding to the load your gut already has to process. Ingested lactate becomes available for oxidation in around 15 minutes, faster than fructose (~30 min) or glucose (~45 min). Supplied as sodium lactate, it also provides an alkalising load that may support buffering capacity during high-intensity efforts, while added Vitamin B1 supports normal energy metabolism.
